Cebuano SEA Games medalists given heroes' welcome

EXTRAORDINARY Cebuano Southeast Asian (SEA) Games medalists were welcomed and honored with a grand homecoming at the City Wing Atrium, SM Seaside City Cebu on Saturday afternoon, June 11, 2022.

The Cebu City Government together with the Cebu City Sports Commission organized the event as a gratitude to the Cebuanos who represented the country in the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Leading the homecoming at SM Seaside City Cebu were billiards gold medalist Rubileen Amit and solo dance Chachacha gold medalist Angelo Marquez. Aside from the gold medal, Angelo Marquez also snagged a silver in the Solo Dance Jive and another silver in Latin Grade A 5 Dance.

Also in the event were Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Cañeda. Aunzo bagged silver in the Solo Dance Samba, bronze in Solo Dance Rumba, and bronze in Solo Dance Pasa Doble, while Cañeda brought home the silver medal in the Solo Dance Samba and bronze in both Solo Dance Rumba and Solo Dance Pasa Doble.

Alexis Sy, likewise, clinched the silver medal in the women's singles event of the bowling tournament, while the national sepak takraw team with Cebuano Rheyjey Ortuoste won a bronze medal.

Raven Faith Alcoseba, a former varsity swimmer from Dela Salle University, got bronze in the Elite Triathlon-Women. Triathlete Andrew Kim Remolino bagged silver in the Elite Triathlon-Men; keeping it consistent with his silver medal finish in the 2019 SEA Games held at Subic Freeport Zone in Zambales.

The country’s men's basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, with Cebuano basketball stars June Mar Fajardo and Roger Pogoy were also honored after the silver-medal finish.

Completing the lineup of Cebuano SEA Games medalists who joined the grand homecoming was Elreen Ando, who clinched the silver medal in the women's weightlifting 64 kilograms category.
