MARK Bernaldez had another career setback after suffering an eighth-round technical knockout loss to Mexican Oscar Duarte on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Duarte started out strong and used his long reach to his advantage. He wobbled Bernaldez a bit with a right hook-left hook combination in the opening round.
The 28-year-old Bernaldez displayed quick footwork and used the ring really well to spark his offense but Duarte successfully defended his attacks.
Duarte started to batter Bernaldez with his vicious combinations in the fourth round.
The 26-year-old Duarte landed a right straight that stunned Bernaldez momentarily in the eighth round. He followed it up with some heavy blows that forced referee Gerard White to stop the fight at the 2:05 mark.
Bernaldez suffered his second straight defeat and dropped to 23-6 with 17 knockouts.
Duarte logged his eighth straight win and improved to 23-1-1 with 18 knockouts.
