THE Cebu City Government will implement a reblocking in the area in Barangay Punta Princesa that was hit by the fire that broke out in Barangay Punta Princesa on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
Gerardo Carillo, chairman of the Cebu City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council, told SunStar Cebu Sunday, June 12, that aside from extending the necessary relief assistance, the City’s priority now is to reblock the site.
Carillo said the responders had a hard time putting out the fire since the pathways were narrow and the access to the interior portion was very limited.
“That was the reason the fire spread because firefighters cannot access the area,” said Carillo in a mix of Cebuano and English.
He assured that the fire victims can still rebuild their houses in the same spot but there will now be wider pathways for improved access in times of emergencies.
Carillo further said that around 3,300 individuals are now being sheltered in different evacuation sites in the barangay.
The massive fire has affected five sitios in the barangay and based on the initial report by the Cebu City Fire Office, the fire started in Sitio Tuburan at 5:53 p.m. Saturday.
