Best friend as an energy to soul

Best friend as an energy to soul

AS WE live in this world, we can find people who are happy with our achievements, but some would not be. It is a sad fact; we can even experience that with our so-called “friends.” So that means that we might have superficial friends.

If I look back, so many friends betrayed me in the past, or maybe I failed to understand that they just pretended to be my friend – like “crocodiles” who eat humans. But some friends genuinely will fight for you – like “angels” who fight your immortal detractors. And how many of them do you know?

I would say that at my age now, I have gained so many trusted friends. But few have made me the best version of myself. And that is Melba Irene Gabuya, the best friend that tells me that shadows in darkness should not be feared. And most of all, never afraid to let me shine. Let me tell you more about my “best friend,” Melba, who brings energy to my soul.

I had known her for 18 years; we were not that close initially. I was distant from her since she appeared very strong, and I was afraid we could not get along. Her voice always sounds in command, and I feel like I am in the military whenever she is around. But then again, when I sit with her, I realize that I share most of her thoughts, and we have some things in common.

With her, I felt safe. Because she makes sure I am in good hands. And she never fails to check about my health, due medications, and medical check-ups. And funny, but even if my lower extremities are swelling due to my illness. Here, I realized that a best friend feels what is inside you. It is as if I have difficulty breathing; she feels it, too.

Amazing, but she never fails to appreciate all my achievements. And my small accomplishment is always a triumph for her. She is the first to send me a surprise 15 minutes after my dissertation defense. She was always present to congratulate me on any of my endeavors and proudly told the whole world about them.

It is funny, but best friends know what we think even if we do not express it. With Melba, we can communicate through our eyes. There is no need to hide or find an appropriate place to talk about sensitive matters because we can agree and disagree without others knowing.

And we can see the pain in our eyes even with a smiling face.

And although we also have many differences, we do not argue. In fact, I can refuse to join Melba with others in an event and disagree with her thoughts. I believe that best friends know when you are comfortable and when you are not. So, even if we do not think the same as to who is the best President in the Philippines, we never argue about it.

We are also not hesitant to tell each other’s mistakes, and we stay understanding each other.

We are the greatest source of learning about our inadequacies. If we hurt each other, we can easily say sorry. And we accept the “imperfect us.”

Lastly, we compensate for each other’s weaknesses. We may just argue about the need to take a rest, as I would beg for us to work overtime, but Melba values much rest in between promoting health.

And so, we can work best together as everything becomes balanced.

Honestly, I am glad that I have Melba, not just a true friend but is known by many as an intellectual writer and speaker, genuinely exceptional! I am also proud to have somebody who reminds me how God is great. How beautiful it is to have her, a helpful woman who will sacrifice at all costs for the benefit of others! I hope you also have “Melba” in your lives, bringing energy to your soul.
