THE Department of Health (DOH) detected six new Omicron sub-variant cases of BA.5 and 10 cases of BA.2.12.1, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

Vergeire said of the five BA.5 cases, two were from the National Capital Region (NCR); one each from Cagayan Valley, Western Visayas and Northern Mindanao regions; while one was still being verified.

The four verified cases were fully vaccinated.

Vergeire said the two cases experienced mild symptoms.

Five were already tagged as recovered while one was still undergoing isolation.

Of the 10 newly detected BA.2.12.1 cases, four were from the National Capital Region, two from Calabarzon, one each from Cagayan Valley, Bicol and Western Visayas regions; and one was a returning overseas Filipino.

Three of them were fully vaccinated while the inoculation status of others were still being verified.

Vergeire said two cases presented mild symptoms, three were asymptomatic, while five were still being verified.

She said eight of the 10 cases were already tagged as recovered, one was still active, while the other one was still being verified.

Vergeire said the exposure of 16 new cases are still unknown and travel histories are being verified.

The DOH has so far detected 11 BA.5 subvariant cases, 42 BA.2.12.1 and one BA.4 in the country. (SunStar Philippines)

[Editor's note: An earlier version of this story included Davao Region among the regions with new cases of the Omicron sub-variants. It was Northern Mindanao that had one case of BA.5, not Davao Region. We regret the confusion.]
