DENR holds 3-day sports festival

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is holding a three-day Physical Fitness and Sports Activities to build rapport, foster teamwork, and healthy and unified DENR team.

The three-day event kicked off Tuesday, June 14, in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte with Ronald Gadot, in-charge of the Office of the Regional Executive Director, leading the opening ceremonies.

The participants of the event are personnel of the DENR regional office and its bureaus like the Environment Management Bureau and Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau, as well as from provincial environment and natural resources offices and community environment and resources offices.

An opening parade was held from the Jose Rizal Memorial landing site to Dapitan Cultural Center with all teams, drum and bugle band with the special appearance of Pinoy Basura Buster (PBB) mascot.

“Sports will teach us two fundamental taxonomy of life. If we win, the response should be humility and modesty, and if we lose the response is patience and tolerance,” Cidur Julsadjiri said in a message during the opening program as he welcomed delegates to the sporting event.

Dionisio Rago, head of City Environment and Natural Resources Office-Liloy and sports committee chairperson administered the oath of sportsmanship.

DENR Regional Information Officer Rosevirico Tan said that several activities such as hataw dancing, basketball, beach volleyball, table tennis, badminton, dart, board games, marathon, executive run, other pistang pinoy games, TikTok competition and battle of the bands are to be participated by its personnel.

Tan said the event is in celebration of the agency’s 35th anniversary on June 10, as well as the Philippine Environment Month with the theme “Aksyon Para Sa Natatanging Mundo”. (SunStar Zamboanga)
