LAWMEN intercepted two motorboats loaded with P2.2 million worth of smuggled cigarettes and arrested four people in an anti-smuggling operation in Zamboanga City, the police reported Friday, June 17.
Police Colonel Richard Verceles, Area Police Command-Western Mindanao’s chief of operations, said the shipment of smuggled cigarettes was intercepted around 4:20 a.m. Friday, June 17, in Ayala village, Zamboanga City.
Arrested were Ali Julkanain, 26 and Mujibar Sharipa, 45, crew of the motorboat marked “Piranha” and Julpikar Dasid, 42, and JOmar Acbal, 32, both crew of the other motorboat named “Wrangler.”
Verceles said the two motorboats were loaded with some P2.2 million worth of smuggled cigarettes that came from Jolo, Sulu.
He said the confiscated smuggled cigarettes, two motorboats and the four crew members were turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
