TALISAY City Mayor Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas said he will support the move of public school teachers to start the holding of face-to-face classes soon.

The mayor said on Friday, June 17, 2022 that he is going to meet the Local School Board on the first week of July to hear their concerns about the schools that were damaged by typhoon Odette December 16 last year and the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

"The government will repair all of these (schools) using the Special Education Fund (SEF), mao nga akong gihangyo ang schools division superintendent nga ipatawag ang tanang mga principal aron pangutan-on unsay problema nila (that's why I requested the schools division superintendent to invite all the principals (to attend the meeting) so I can ask them what their problems are), amend their previous request nga pre-Odette to a post-Odette rehabilitation request," sigun sa mayor.

Gullas said that the Department og Education (DepEd) Talisay City Division has several priority projects before the onslaught of Odette, but the SEF budget for these projects had to be amended for rehabilitation after the schools suffered great damage from the typhoon.

Some of the schools that underwent complete renovation by the Talisay Engineering Department are the Lawaan 1 Elementary School and Lawaan 3 National High School, whose roofs and canopy had to be replaced.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Randy Caballes, chief of Talisay City Police Station, said they already coordinated with the different school heads about their preparations for the opening of face to face classes.

"Ang atoa is more on security, atong i-secure lalo na kon magtapok na ang mga bata, mga ginikanan mag-abot sa opening. Mag-deploy ta og mga personnel for security unya ni-coordinate sad natu ang City of Talisay - Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA) ilabi na katong mga eskwelahan along the highway ma-secure natu ang traffic flow sad," matud sa hepe.

(Ours is more on security, we will secure (the area) where children gather, parents will also come during the opening. We will deploy personnel to provide security, then the City of Talisay-Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA) also coordinated with us on traffic management especially schools along the highway.
