A POLICEMAN assigned at Police Station 2 in Bacolod City is now in "hot water" after he was involved in a shooting incident that injured two persons, including a construction worker, shortly after midnight Sunday, June 19.

Major Ritchie Gohee, commander of Police Station 4, said Police Master Sergeant Jeff Desucatan, of Barangay Alijis, was detained.

Desucatan reportedly shot Richard Jimenez, 30, a construction worker, and resident of the city's Barangay 26 along Rizal Street following an argument.

Investigation showed that Desucatan was walking when Jimenez confronted and threatened him.

Desucatan took his gun and fired warning shots, but Jimenez took a bottle and tried to harm him, prompting the policeman to shoot the latter on his left foot to neutralize him.

"Jimenez was jealous because his former girlfriend was a friend of Desucatan," Gohee said.

Aside from Jimenez, bystander Jorem Sibug, 24, of Barangay 27, who was walking was also hit by a stray bullet.

Jimenez and Sibug were brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH), where they are now recuperating.

Police recovered from the scene of the crime three live ammunition and four fired cartridges of a 9-millimeter pistol.

After the incident, Gohee said Desucatan tried to hide in a house at Barangay 26, but he later voluntarily surrendered and turned over his service firearm.

Desucatan may face charges for frustrated homicide and reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury, Gohee stressed.

On top of that, Desucatan may also face administrative charges to be filed by the Philippine National Police, he added.
