A DRIVER died while his four passengers were hurt when the tricycle they were riding collided with a canter truck along the access road in Barangay Tinapaan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental past 4 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2022.

Lieutenant Colonel Gil John Despi, chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said killed was Rodrigo Magbanua, 53, of Eusebio Subdivision in the city’s Barangay Zone 2.

Despi said the passengers of the tricycle, who were not named, also sustained minor injuries and were later released from the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic while Magbanua died upon arrival at the facility.

He said truck driver Julieto Jaranilla, 59, of Hacienda Reboton in Barangay Tinampaan, and Magbanua’s family failed to reach a settlement.

Despi added that charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against Jaranilla, who is still in the custody of Cadiz City Police Station.

Investigation showed that the tricycle overtook a multicab but hit the latter’s rear portion before swerving to the opposite lane and collided with the approaching canter.

Jaranilla told police that he attempted to evade the tricycle but it was already too late.
