A FORMER convict accused of killing a police informant was gunned down during a police operation in Barangay Poblacion Oriental, Consolacion town, northern Cebu on Tuesday afternoon, June 21, 2022.

Ronald Judilla, a resident of Barangay Tugbungan, in the same town, was killed after he reportedly fought back the local police who wanted to arrest him for the murder of Renante Gerundio, whom they identified as one of their informants.

Staff Sgt. Arnold Rusiana of the Consolacion Police Station told SunStar Cebu that Gerundio was sleeping in his house in Barangay Nangka around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday when Judilla allegedly barged in and shot the victim several times before fleeing. Gerundio was already dead when police found him in his house.

Unfortunately for Judilla, witnesses were able to inform the police of his location, which resulted in a follow-up operation against him around 3 p.m. on the same day.

Shootout

Rusiana said when police arrived at Judilla’s house, they tried to convince the suspect to surrender. But instead of surrendering, Judilla pulled out a .45 pistol and started shooting at the police.

The shootout resulted in Judilla’s death.

Rusiana said that based on their investigation, Judilla was reportedly angry at Gerundio for providing information to the police about his illegal activities.

Rusiana said Judilla was allegedly involved in selling illegal drugs, murders and other crimes in the town.
