City, DPWH-Davao inaugurate Bago Aplaya Esplanade

THE Bago Aplaya Esplanade was officially turned over to the City Government of Davao from the Department of Public Works and Highways Davao Region (DPWH-Davao) on June 21, 2022.

The esplanade is 55,110 sqm in size or approximately 5.5 hectares is complete with different recreational and physical fitness amenities such as bicycle and jogging lanes, skate and dog park, and playground.

For added convenience to visitors, the park also has comfort rooms and a wide parking space for vehicles.

According to DPWH-Davao spokesperson Dean Ortiz, the construction of the Bago Aplaya Esplanade cost P525 million. It was started in 2018 and completed in November 2021.

“What we have done today is to turn over this facility to the stewardship of the City Government of Davao,” Ortiz said during an interview with the media.

Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte led the inauguration of the esplanade on June 21. He said the new outdoor facility will boost the wellness of Dabawenyos.

“Maayo kaayo siya sa well being and mental wellness sa mga tao (This is good for the well being and mental wellness of the people) especially after the pandemic na daghan kaayo na-traumatize and naapektuhan ang mental health (when their mental health were affected and they were traumatized). This is something big for them to enjoy. Nagtukod ta og dalan, pero nag tukod pud ta og place for leisure (We did not only built a road, but also a place for leisure),” Duterte said.

The new esplanade is now open to the public and will be under the care and authority of the local government unit. Duterte said they will deploy different personnel for maintenance and law enforcement within the facility.

“Tanan mga balaod nato, especially road safety and speed limit, naa gihapon (We will enforce all of our ordinance, especially road safety and speed limit). Atong auxiliary, mag butang pud ta diri para naa pud ta tao mag bantay (We will also deploy auxiliary personnel to stand guard),” the vice mayor said.

The Bago Aplaya esplanade is part of the major Davao City Coastal Road Road project. Ortiz said the coastal road project is already 53 percent complete with an expenditure of P33 billion so far. ICM
