THE Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) aims for its hybrid flexible learning strategy to become a platform for other educational institutions in a bid to normalize both online and face-to-face learning in the near future.
During the Kapehan sa Dabaw press conference on June 20, 2022, Fr. Ogie Cabayao, Addu assistant to the academic vice president, said Addu’s Hybrid Implementation Strategy of using the Flex modality of blended learning (HISFlex) aims to give students and teachers the option to learn and teach either online or on-site.
Cabayao said it is important for Addu and other schools to be versed in both face-to-face and online and tech-based learning that will not be disrupted no matter what problems may come in the future.
“Learning how to use technology and how to use it well makes it possible for education to continue despite the challenges and limitations that happened during the pandemic,” he said.
The HISFlex is aimed to stimulate instructor presence and virtual presence in both offline and online classes to ensure that learning can happen anywhere, said Cabayao.
Addu said they will implement HISFlex at Addu in the incoming school year and hopes it will be a prototype learning strategy for other schools to do the same setup.
“We’re tearing down the walls of the four corners of the classroom. We learned from the pandemic that education can happen online... So you have two options, either you attend classes onsite or online. Therefore, even those who are not from Davao City can still learn,” Addu Executive Vice President Jeremy Eliab said.
Eliab said the HISFlex also allows for those students who cannot attend on-site classes because of vaccination restrictions to still attend their classes online.
“Only those students and university personnel who are vaccinated can participate in the limited face-to-face classes,” he said.
