A COMMUNIST rebel died in an encounter on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, between the soldiers and communist rebels in the Lahi mountains, Bagsac in Madrid, Surigao del Sur.

According to the military statement, the troops of the Army's 36th Infantry Battalion encountered around 12 New People's Army (NPA) rebels.

After the clash, the armed rebels ran away leaving behind one M16 rifle, two M16 magazines, 5.560millimeter ammunition, personal equipment, subversive documents, three backpacks, ammunition, medicine, and some utensils and cooking ingredients.

Lieutenant Colonel Michael Rey Reuyan, commander of 36IB, expressed his gratitude to the civilians who helped them locate the hideout of the armed rebel group.

"We call on the few remaining members of the NPA, not to be afraid, to lay down your arms and return to our government. We have a program that can help with your grievance such as the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip)," Reuyan said.

"Let us no longer be blinded and deceived by the lies of the CPP-NPA-NDF (Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA-National Democratic Front)," he added.
