Barili village chief loses cash, Dasig cards to gang members

THE village chief of Mayana, Barili town in southwest Cebu lost cash and important documents, including Dasig Sugbo cards for her constituents, after she was victimized by “Budol-Budol” gang members on Friday morning, June 24, 2022.

Myrna Binondo, 48, told police that she was busy attending to her customers at her fruit store in the same barangay when five unidentified people suddenly approached her to ask her the prices of the fruits that she was selling.

As Binondo was busy talking to the group, she didn’t realize that one of them had snuck inside her store and taken her slingbag which was hanging on a post behind her.

It was only after the group had left her store when she noticed that her bag was already missing.

Binondo told police that her bag contained P130,000 in cash, her IDs, assorted jewelry and at least 60 Dasig Sugbo cards she was supposed to give to her constituents.

The Dasig Sugbo cards were given by the Cebu Provincial Government to residents in the Province who were directly affected by Typhoon Odette last year.

She believed that the five customers connived with each other to distract her attention.

Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Alpas of Barili Police Station told SunStar Cebu that they already conducted an investigation to identify the suspects.

Alpas said they would also check for any CCTV cameras in the area to help them resolve the case. (GPL / TPT)
