1 dead, 1 missing as vessel catches fire off Bohol

(UPDATED) The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Visayas said that one person died in the fire that hit a passenger vessel in the waters off Bohol Sunday, June 26, 2022.

The victim was identified as Adolfo Rañola, 53, of Barangay Poblacion, Trinidad town, Bohol.

The vessel on fire was the M/V Mama Mary, which was bound for Bato, Leyte from Ubay, Bohol.

Based on the Coast Guard's 6:23 p.m. (June 26) update, three persons are still missing.

In total, 99 rescued passengers were brought to Hilongos town; 27 to Carlos P. Garcia town; and 35 to Gaus Island, three of whom were unidentified.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Junior Grade Krysta Bergantin said that the PCG-Visayas has sent the ship MRRV-4409 to where the vessel burned to assist search and rescue operations.

The Coast Guard has yet to disclose the cause of the fire. (BBT/JGS)
