LOCAL police are now in the hunt for a man suspected of stabbing to death his aunt and wounding another aunt in Aloguinsan town on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
Officials of the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) are urging Harvey Kilaton Nengasca, 23, to surrender and face charges for murdering his aunt Arsenia Nengasca Alidani and wounding another aunt, Belen Nengasca Biton, 53.
The incident reportedly occurred at Arsenia’s shop in Barangay Bonbon, Aloguinsan town at 2:35 p.m. on Sunday.
Lt. Col. Mark Gifter Sucalit, CPPO’s deputy director for operation, told reporters that Arsenia had just came from attending mass when she decided to go to her shop in Purok 3 in Barangay Bonbon. Arsenia didn’t notice that Harvey, her nephew, was following her.
Sucalit said that Harvey wanted to ask his aunt for money but Arsenia refused to give him any. This resulted in an argument between Arsenia and her nephew.
Sucalit said the argument eventually turned ugly when Harvey suddenly pulled out a pair of scissors and started attacking Arsenia.
Outside the shop, Belen was walking when she heard a loud thud coming from Arsenia’s shop. She decided to verify by entering the shop.
Inside, Belen was shocked to find Arsenia’s body on the floor, already covered in her own blood.
But as Belen was trying to help Arsenia, Harvey suddenly appeared from behind and covered her mouth with his hand. Harvey was still carrying a pair of scissors in his other hand.
But Belen tried to fight Harvey back, which resulted to her getting a slash wound on her head and in one of her knees.
Belen, however, was able to get away from Harvey’s, and she immediately called for help.
When local police arrived in the crime scene, Harvey was no longer there. Police also discovered that a few pieces of jewelry and cash owned by Arsenia were missing.
Police also brought Arsenia to a nearby hospital but she was declared dead on arrival while Belen only sustained a few stab wounds after the incident.
Suspect a drug user?
Sucalit said they suspected that Harvey had used illegal drugs just before he committed the crime. Witnesses provided the police with information about Harvey’s drug habit in the past.
He added that Harvey possibly had planned the attack on his aunt so that he could steal her jewelry and cash.
Harvey is set to face robbery with murder and frustrated murder charges.
