OUTGOING Davao City Councilor and incoming Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain, Jr. bared the creation of a special library in the city for Outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte, who is set to step down from the presidency on June 30.

Quitain said this during the oathtaking and inauguration of newly-elected local government officials of Davao City and members of the House of Representatives at the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Monday afternoon, June 27.

The outgoing councilor said the library will be called the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte Presidential Library in the city.

Quitain's announcement coincided with the arrival of the President in the venue to attend the inauguration of the latter's son, outgoing Vice Mayor and Mayor-elect Sebastian Duterte.

The library, he said, aims to honor the accomplishment of Duterte.

"...To honor the life's work and accomplishment of a great leader and Dabawenyo who battled the odds, and became the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines," Quitain said.

He said this would allow Dabawenyos to research and be educated on the city's history under Duterte's leadership as mayor for more than 20 years, and his journey toward the presidency.

Meanwhile, Sebastian officially took oath as the 19th elected city mayor, making him the third-consecutive Duterte to assume the position. The outgoing President became mayor from 1988 to 1998, then from 2001 to 2010, and lastly from 2013 to 2016. Outgoing Davao City Mayor and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte served the city from 2010 to 2013, and from 2016 until 2022.

Duterte, after his term ends, bared in previous reports that he will be retiring from politics, and going back to the city. However, he said he will continue his anti-drug and criminality advocacy even under his private citizenry. RGL
