Mayor-elect Baste to prioritize food security

INCOMING Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte vowed to ensure food security for Dabawenyos under his term.

Duterte, during his inauguration speech at the Davao City Hall grounds on Monday, June 27, said the city government will continue with the modernization initiatives in the agricultural sector.

"We need to sustain our growth in the agri-industry being among the top drivers of the local economy," the mayor-elect said.

"Food security is a priority," he added.

He added the city will provide local farmers and fisherfolk with agricultural inputs and technologies to boost their production.

Research and innovation, he said, will be strengthened to address the issue of the agricultural sector.

Duterte said that with the operation of the Davao City Food Terminal Complex in Daliao, Toril last April this year, the city is aiming for a "more efficient food delivery and management system while meeting the food demands of the consumer."

Meanwhile, the outgoing vice mayor also thanked the Dabawenyos for their "trust and confidence" resulting in his win I n the 2022 elections.

"The trust and confidence you have given me will be my foundation and inspiration in the next three years as your city mayor," Duterte said.

"Therefore, with honor and humbled receiving this mandate, and I assure you, this will not be taken for granted," Duterte added.

He also urged Dabawenyos to unite, participate, and cooperate in making the city a better place.

"Moving forward, let us now set aside our differences, and work together as one Davao City. Everyone should participate, and cooperate," Duterte said.

"No one will be left behind in our journey towards a much stronger city, and a much better future for our people," he added.

Duterte will officially assume as the city's mayor on Thursday noon, June 30, succeeding his sister, Outgoing Davao City Mayor and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte, who served as mayor for three non-consecutive terms. RGL
