THE lone district of Antique has vowed to support the endeavor of the Provincial Government to highlight natural wonders as part of its tourism lure this year.

Antique Representative-elect Antonio Agapito Legarda, in his speech during the inauguration at the EBJ Freedom Park in San Jose, Antique on Monday, June 27, said tourism is an important economic driver.

Legarda took his oath administered by Senator-elect Loren Legarda, his older sister.

"Antique has many natural wonders and we will promote many of those for our tourism industry," the congressman said.

He said the promotion of the province’s tourism is expected to also boost local small medium enterprises in Antique.

Data from the Department of Tourism-Western Visayas showed that Antique received 108,220 foreign and domestic visitors in 2018.

In March 2022, Senator Legarda launched a documentary on Antique's marine treasures and it will reportedly be aired on Discovery Channel. (Jun Aguirre/SunStar Philippines)
