THE Urban Search and Rescue (Usar) team of Central 911 has successfully rescued six children trapped on the rock in the middle of the raging river at Purok 2, Sitio Balengaeng, Tugbok District, Davao City yesterday, June 28.

Based on the information gathered by Superbalita Davao, the children were immediately rescued after their aunt, Dimps Cansana, posted on Facebook the kids' situation.

It was learned that the kids asked permission to go swimming in the river but their parents refused. However, the kids went on anyway.

As the kids were enjoying swimming, the river’s current suddenly became strong and its water turned brown and muddy. The children immediately took safety on a large rock in the middle of the river and were trapped there.

In the video posted by Dimps Cansana, it was shown that the children were already crying as they could not cross over to the dry part due to the strong current. However, they were rescued almost an hour after being trapped.

According to an FB post of Team Davao Rescue, there were also two children who were trapped in Lipadas River in Manambulan, Davao City during the time.

The sudden surge of water in the river is said to be due to continuous heavy rainfall in the mountainous part of the area last Monday, June 27.

Meanwhile, the authorities are warning the residents along the riverbanks in the city to be always on guard. JPC
