MORE than 1,000 Davao City residents have died within a year due to Covid-19 disease, most of whom are unvaccinated, said Davao City Covid-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser on June 29, 2022.

Based on June 2021 to June 2022 data from the task force,1,099 of the deaths were unvaccinated and 178 were vaccinated.

“Katong 2020, wala pa man ta nag sugod og vaccination. Nag sugod ta recently sa June 2021 (Last 2020, we did not have a vaccination yet. We have just started the vaccination roll out on June 2021),” Schlosser said during a radio interview.

Of the unvaccinated deaths, 584 were in the age bracket of 60 years old and above, 251 are 50 to 59 years old, and 125 are aged 40 to 49 years.

The rest of the age bracket has a tally of less than 100, particularly between the ages of 30 to 39 years old with 69 death cases, 20 to 29 years old with 35 cases, and two death cases between the ages of 18 to 19 years.

Schlosser also presented death cases of minors wherein 18 are less than five years old, seven are between five to 12 years old, and eight are aged 12 to 17 years old.

Given this data, Schlosser urged senior citizens to avail themselves of the booster doses against Covid-19 since they are the most vulnerable and have the highest chance to succumb to the disease among the rest of the population group.

“The data is showing us that the vaccine is really working towards protection from the severity of the disease. Kung inevitable man ang matakdan sa Covid-19, at least, balik-balikon nato, ma-prevent ang kamatayon due to Covid-19 (It is inevitable to get infected by Covid-19 but as I have repeatedly said, it will prevent deaths),” Schlosser explained.
