Shipyard worker dies of electrocution

A 35-year-old welder died of electrocution while doing welding works in a shipyard in Danao City on Thursday morning, June 30, 2022.

Corporal Thomas Redan Perez, desk officer of Danao City Police Station, identified the victim as Julius Capuyan Laurel, 35, a regular employee of Dynacast Shipyard on

Rizal Street, Barangay Suba, Danao City.

The victim was brought on board a private vehicle to Danao City Provincial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by attending physician about 9:20 a.m..

Police investigator Chief Master Sergeant Reynante Manulat told SunStar Cebu that according to an employee who witnessed the incident, Laurel was doing welding

works on a drydocked passenger vessel when he was electrocuted, asking for help from his fellow workers.

Avila said he tried to grab the electrical wire connected to the welding machine but he was also electrocuted and thrown away.

The police advised the immediate family of the victim to submit the latter to an autopsy to determine if there was foul play involved in his death.

Manulat said that a representative of Dynacast Shipyard promised to shoulder the burial expenses and give assistance to the family of the victim, including the benefits accorded to him being a regular employee. (TPT)
