Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Benitez will hold his inauguration at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) at 4 p.m. today, July 1.

The ceremony will also attended by Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, Abang Lingkod Party-List Representative Joseph Stephen Paduano and the members of the City Council.

Benitez along with other newly-elected officials officially assumed their posts at 12 noon yesterday, June 30.

Before he (Benitez) assumed his post, the transition team of outgoing mayor Evelio Leonardia led by Victoria Parrenas, outgoing secretary to the mayor, also turned over all the documents to his transition team at the City Mayor’s Office.

Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Bacolod head, said it was a smooth transition between the incoming and outgoing administration’s transition teams.

She said the outgoing administration of Leonardia complied with all the requirements required by the DILG, adding that she will make a report to be submitted to the regional office of DILG-Western Visayas.

Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya, who leads the transition team of Benitez, said the transition team of the outgoing administration team turned over the documents as mandated the DILG and it’s now in the custody of Atty. Karol Joseph Chiu, secretary to the mayor of the Benitez administration.

He said the outgoing administration also turned over the keys of various offices at the government center, adding that the office of Benitez will review all the documents.

Gasataya noted that it’s not yet determined if the new administration will have enough budget to hire job order (JO) employees.

He said they will check first the project funds that will be utilized for the hiring of JOs.

For his part, Chiu said they will review the documents and will check all the equipment at the BCGC.*
