Central Luzon palay production up by 10% percent on 1st quarter

CENTRAL Luzon registered a 10 percent growth in palay production based on the data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority.

The growth was seen during the first quarter of 2022. The increase is significantly higher compared to the first quarter of last year. Central Luzon was able to produce 772,855.28 metric tons this year which is 73,811.78 higher last year.

A 10.50 percent or 73,031.78 increase on the production of irrigated palay was also recorded. Meanwhile, rainfed palay logs a 22.83% growth or 780.00 mt.

Rice is one of the region’s major crops which contributes some 18-20 percent to the country’s total rice production.

In the year 2021, the region attained a total of 3,741,210.53 metric tons (MT) rice production or 106,062.94 metric tons higher compared to 3,635,147.59 MT in the year 2020 (PSA Data) which showed an increase in the area harvested of 2.37 percent or 16,854.42 hectares.
