Nutrition Month activities in Central Visayas kick off

THE National Nutrition Council (NNC) in Central Visayas has called for collective effort to improve nutrition in the country as it moves forward toward a better normal.

This was what Dr. Parolita Mission, NNC-Central Visayas regional nutrition coordinator, said during the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH)-Central Visayas integrated kick-off activity for health celebration for the month of July at the Robinsons Galleria in Cebu City on Saturday, July 2, 2022.

The activity was in line with Diabetes Awareness Week, National Disaster Resilience Month, Nutrition Month, National Blood Donors Month, and National Deworming Month.

Mission said their objective for this month-long observance includes raising awareness of the importance of nutrition embedding resilience and recovery from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

She said this is also to stimulate discussions among stakeholders on how to bring back better the design clinically and scaling up nutrition intervention and engage

various sectors and the public on the activities in promoting good nutrition.

As part of resilience strategies amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Mission urged the general public to continue to advocate for good nutrition, noting that this is the key to building immunity, protecting against illness and infection, and supporting recovery.

“Let us promote health and enhancing nutrition behavior including the consumption of the sustainable healthy diets,” she said as she calls for continued solidarity to

support food nutrition security, particularly among the vulnerable sectors.

With this, Mission urged newly elected government officials to establish a nutrition office that will have a permanent and full-time nutrition action officer or personnel.

She also encouraged local chief executives to pass ordinances that support nutrition and prepare their three-year local nutrition action plan and include this in their local development plan as well as in the annual investment program, and provide support to barangay nutrition scholars. (MKG)
