THE Department of Health (DOH) will continue its programs for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) response while President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has yet to appoint a new secretary of health.

"Our current pandemic response protocols continue to be implemented. Everything is status quo until new directives from our new President come in," the DOH said in a statement.

"The country’s Covid-19 response actions, along with actions for all other non-Covid health matters, continue through senior DOH officials supervising specific bureaus, offices and units. We await and are ready for the announcement of the next Secretary of Health," it added

In the first memorandum circular issued by the Malacañang on Friday, July 1, the first official working day of Marcos as the country’s top government officials, it declared vacant positions held by presidential appointees whose appointments are classified as co-terminus; those occupying positions created in excess of the authorized staffing pattern; non-career executive service officials occupying Career Executive Service positions; and contractual and/or casual employees.

The vacancy will be filled up by the next-in-rank and most senior official in an officer-in-charge capacity until July 31 or until replacement has been appointed or designated. (SunStar Philippines)
