AFTER stepping down from her post as SunStar Davao's Editor-in-chief in 2018, Stella A. Estremera is now coming home as the community newspaper's Associate Publisher.
"We welcome Miss Estremera's return with us as we embark on new heights in our 27th year," Reuel John F. Lumawag, SunStar Davao Editor-in-chief said.
As SunStar Davao's Associate Publisher, Estremera will help Lumawag and the editorial team in conceptualizing content relevant to the needs and interests of the community SunStar Davao serves.
She will likewise take part in the development of the editorial team to help them improve their performance in their craft.
"Miss Estremera's decades of experience in the journalism field and with SunStar Davao will help us navigate and further adapt to the digital media landscape," Lumawag said.
Estremera said the current media landscape, which has been changed by digitalization and the Covid-19 pandemic, presents fresh new challenges to the community newspapers.
"There is the challenge to stand out in a sea of information. At the same time, the wave of false information makes navigation harder. Hence, we will be developing innovations that will allow us to ride the tides and deliver to community stories that matter to them," she said.
Meanwhile, amid the growing digital landscape, SunStar Social Media Strategist Ace June Rell Perez has been designated as SunStar Davao's Digital Services Head.
"A community newspaper will have to embrace digitalization to be able to adapt and keep up with the times. We are excited to push forward new initiatives in digital media that will allow us to deliver better content to our audience and advertising clients," Perez said.
"It will be an exciting 27th year for us here at SunStar Davao as we develop new content and digital initiatives to make the SunStar experience better," Lumawag said.
