VALLACAR Transit Inc., the firm that operates Ceres bus, said the incident involving a Ceres bus that rammed the passenger waiting area in Dumaguete City terminal was an isolated case.
Three minors were injured after the Ceres bus rammed into a group of people seated at the passenger terminal in Barangay Calindagan Tuesday afternoon, July 5, 2022.
A report from the Dumaguete City Police Station identified the victims as Haiden B. Silab, 14, a Grade 8 student; Zim Tyler B. Silab, 12, a Grade 6 pupil; and John Caleb Silab, 7; all residents of Minglanilla, Cebu.
The bus diver was identified as Joebie J. Lajot, 43, of Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.
In a statement Tuesday, July 5, 2022, Vallacar Transit assured the families of the victims that the firm will cover the expenses for medical treatment.
It said the driver of the unit has been serving the company for 15 years and has no record of major accidents.
“Prior to the accident, the said driver was awarded with a zero accident incentive,” Vallacar said.
The firm also said that based on the initial investigation, the unit involved in the accident was not experiencing any malfunction.
The driver is now under the custody of Dumaguete police for thorough investigation.
"Again, our sincerest apologies to the families of the injured and the riding public for causing undue distress. Vallacar Transit Inc. will continue to serve the riding public with utmost regards to their safety and security," the firm added.
