ALL Lapu-Lapu City Hall workers can expect a salary increase should the 2022 Annual Budget be approved by the new City Council.

Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan announced this during his first flag-raising ceremony at the start of his second term as local chief executive on Monday, July 4, 2022.

Chan said the salary increase for all City Hall workers had been included in the proposed P3 billion annual budget that was not approved by the previous council, which was then dominated by the opposition bloc.

All the city councilors who won in the May 9, 2022 elections are allies of Chan, including the presiding officer of the City Council, reelected Vice Mayor Celedonio “Celsi” Sitoy.

With this, the reelected mayor urged the City Council to approve the annual budget during their regular session this week, as the budget for the repair of facilities that were damaged during the onslaught of Typhoon Odette (Rai) is also included in it.

The City currently uses the reenacted 2021 annual budget amounting to P2.7 billion.

“I’m sure in my second term, with the support of the City Council, and the support of our new congresswoman Cindi King-Chan, our projects will be implemented,” said the mayor, who also asked for the cooperation and support of his constituents.

Chan earlier expressed hope to solve the long-standing problems on drainage, flooding, traffic in the city, as well as repairing Odette-damaged structures such as the multipurpose gyms and schools, now that his allies occupy all the seats in the City Council.
