Davao City Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain said the creation of the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte Presidential Library will not be under a separate building.

In an ambush interview right after the 20th City Council inaugural session, Quitain said the creation of the Presidential Library will be placed on existing city property.

"My concept is not a new building, siguro whatever existing structures we have, a city library or whatever, we'll put a nook or corner there or a section devoted for PRRD as the Presidential Library," the vice mayor said.

He said they will start the planning for this week,

Among the major tasks is to gather all memorabilia, publications, and other materials related to the President.

"We're gonna do that immediately," Quitain said.

The vice mayor bared the creation of a special library in the city during the oathtaking and inauguration of newly-elected local government officials of Davao City and members of the House of Representatives at the Sangguniang Panlungsod on June 27.

The library, he said, aims to honor the accomplishment of Duterte.

"...To honor the life's work and accomplishment of a great leader and Dabawenyo who battled the odds, and became the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines," Quitain said.

He said this would allow Dabawenyos to research and be educated on the city's history under Duterte's leadership as mayor for more than 20 years, and his journey toward the presidency.

In a recent interview, Quitain said other countries also have a special library for their respective former leaders. RGL
