5 communist group top leaders surrender

FIVE top leaders of the communist terrorist group (CTG) operating in Caraga have surrendered to the 402nd Infantry Brigade on July 4, 2022.

The military identified the communist group leaders as Rogelio Sapon Gerondio Jr, Ruel Nawagas Namansulay, Maricel Asalan Lunsayan, Rexon Sapon Guinar Sr., and Nita Ondong Guinar from the CTG's Sub-Regional Committee 3.

The five rebels also surrendered one AR18 rifle, one M14 rifle, one M16 rifle, and two Cal. 45 pistols.

According to 402nd Infantry Brigade Commander Adonis Ariel Orio, Gerondio Jr. and Namansulay were included in the list of high value individuals of the Joint Task Force Diamond and Eastern Mindanao Command.

Major General Wilbur Mamawag, the 4th Infantry Division commander, for his part, lauded the joint intelligence task unit of 402nd Infantry Brigade for this feat leading to the eventual collapse of CTGs in Caraga.

Mamawag also urged the other subordinate units to be relentless in the conduct of focused military operations while allowing tired and weary CTGs elements to surrender.

"We shall sustain this winning momentum with the help of LGUs and the line government agencies, under the auspices of Task Force on Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict. Together, we will rid communities of peace spoilers to allow for unhampered development of our communities," Mamawag said.

The 4th ID commander also appealed to the remaining CTG members to stop fighting the government and instead "heed the call for peace by availing of the benefits under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip)."
