Man stabbed in Alegria; suspect nabbed

A 48-YEAR-OLD man with a hard-bladed bolo stuck on the left side of his body was found lying lifeless on the ground beside the road in Sitio Upper Anonga, Barangay Madridejos, Alegria, Cebu Friday morning, July 8.

Hours after the body was found, police arrested the suspect in a hot pursuit operation.

Master Sergeant Cyson Obiasada, investigating officer of Alegria Police Station, identified the victim as Sergio Jamero, of Sitio Upper Anongan, while the suspect was Anthony Estiban, 41, a farmer and resident of the same place.

Obiasada told SunStar Cebu that at 5:18 a.m. of July 8, Rodrigo Enario, tanod of Barangay Madridejos, called their station and informed them about the dead person.

The responding them then saw Jamero lying on the ground with the bolo stuck on the left side of his body.

Municipal Health Officer Dra. Clarrisa Cardona said the cause of Jamero’s death was lacerated wounds on his body.

Based on initial investigation, the victim and the suspect were seen by their neighbors having an argument Thursday night, July 7.

The suspect, Estiban, was nabbed around 9:10 a.m. Friday, hours after Jamero’s body was found.

Estiban admitted to police that he killed Jamero, as he got pissed after the victim teased him for cutting trees.

Estiban said they also had previous arguments and personal grudges.

"Sa wala pa nahitabo, nag away na sila daan kay nakainom man ni silang duha bahin sa nangagi. Ang sulti sa suspek ng sa ilang panaglalis, naahinaykan niya," Obiasada said.

Obiasada said the family of the victim will file a case against the suspect, who was detained at the Alegria custodial facility.

Estiban will face murder charges. (GDC)
