IN THE hands of a skillful makeup artist, a person's face becomes a canvas where masterpieces are made and these can either shock or awe the audiences because of their creative execution.
This was the inspiration of the 12 students of the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod's Institute of the Moving Image (IMI) class under the tutelage of prominent makeup artist Carlos Durana as they competed for their makeup creations during the Kara 2022 held at SM City Bacolod-North Wing event center on July 7, 2022.
The event allowed them to showcase their makeup creations in fantasy, prosthetics and bridal makeup runs.
Steve Louise Rotelo, whose work took home the best prosthetics, was named Kara Artist of the Year 2022.
The winners in various categories were Louie Hundana as best in fantasy makeup while Fred Ashley Donguez was best in bridal makeup.
The Makeup Artists of Negros, Makeup Artists Guild of Negros, Transqueens of Negros, Gab the drag queen, Lakan ng Silay winner Heal Rodriguez along with Marx Louie Justiniani and Dale Herrera Divino, Hari ng Pilipinas-Negros Occidental and Bacolod, respectively, corroborated to mount this event.
Joining them are the makeup and film students and models of Carlos Durana, the Edwin Benitez gowns, Kefi for accessories, Dwight Morana of the Negros Fashion Fes for the models, JL Talent Management, Apol Embang, Chino Christopherson and Leonard Geraldes, among others.
The participants include Aubrey Mae B. Villanueva, Fred Ashly T. Donguez, Lovelyn Grace P. Reyes, Abiel A. Semillano, Noella D. Canete, Yobelle Martir, Louie Hundrana, Karen Joy E. Lipat, Riquebelle Manzo, Rob Chrysler Vaflor, Steve Louise V. Rotelo, and Adia Beatrice Manzo.
