LAWMEN have arrested one person and seized P250,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes in an anti-smuggling operation in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Tuesday, July 12.
Police Colonel Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, identified the arrested person as Zalby Abdul, 52 of Alu Pangkoh village, Parang, Sulu.
Verceles said Abdul was arrested around 11 p.m. Monday, July 11, along the national highway in Purok 3, Dacanay village, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay.
The policemen of Siay established a checkpoint and intercepted a Sports Utility Vehicle driven by Abdul along the highway after they received information that there was a transportation of smuggled cigarettes along the national highway of Siay.
He said the policemen seized aboard the vehicle driven by Abdul a total of 10 master cases of undocumented cigarettes with P250,000.
He said the vehicle, cigarettes and Abdul were placed under the temporary custody of Siay Municipal Police Station. (SunStar Zamboanga)
