KADAYAWAN participants might be asked to be fully vaccinated before they are allowed to join events in August to ensure their safety against Covid-19.

“As the days goes on, amoang e-present kung unsa tong mga protocol (we will present the protocols in the coming days),” Al Ryan Alejandre, Kadayawan Execom Spokesperson, said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio on July 11, 2022.

However, Alejandre said wearing a face mask remains to be part of the costume of the participants aside from being vaccinated.

“So we will tackle that this Wednesday, hopefully, dili pa man nato masulti nga mandated (For now, we cannot say it is mandated) but encouraging all participants to be vaccinated,” Alejandre said.

Some of the events in the festival that have more than 15 participants are the Pitik Kadayawan drum beating competition on August 21, Sayaw Kadayawan indigenous-inspired dance competition on August 18, as well as the Indak Indak sa Kadayawan, a street dance event at San Pedro Square, which will happen on August 20.

Alejandre said vaccination sites are still open and everyone can still get vaccinated.

Alejandre said the comeback of the Kadayawan festival expects at least 50,000 spectators, both foreign and local as this will be celebrated face to face.

"This year’s theme of the celebration is ‘Kasikas sa Kadayawan,' which means to make noise and to have fun. The Kadayawan festival is a means to relax, enjoy, and a way of thanksgiving for our bountiful harvest,” said Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. President Dr. Maria Lourdes Monteverde during the launching event on July 8, 2022. KSD
