Crime group member killed in shootout

AN ALLEGED member of a notorious criminal gang was killed in a shootout with policemen in the province of Lanao del Sur, the police reported Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

The Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office identified the slain lawless element as Jack Macaraya, a member of the notorious Macaraya Criminal Group.

The police said Macaraya was killed in a shootout Monday, July 11, in Tuka-Kialdan, Marantao, Lanao Del Sur.

The shootout broke out after Macaraya resisted and pulled a handgun when the policemen were about to serve a warrant of arrest against him.

Macaraya was rushed to the hospital for treatment but was declared dead by the attending physician, the police said.

Recovered from the shootout site was a caliber .45 pistol with ammunition.

Macaraya has a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of robbery with homicide issued by the court of Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur, on June 13, 2022.

Police said the Macaraya Criminal Group is primarily involved in murder and robbery in the town of Marantao, Lanao del Sur.

Meanwhile, Police Brigadier General Arthur Cabalona, Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) director, commended the operating units on their accomplishment.

Cabalona said PRO-BAR will continue to enforce the law by intensifying the implementation of the court-issued warrant of arrest and those with standing warrants must face their trials and charges. (SunStar Zamboanga)
