DoTr promotes use of electric vehicles

THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) has vowed to continue promoting green transport projects and the use of electric vehicles throughout the country.

Thus said DoTr Secretary Jaime J. Bautista During Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’ launching of the first mall-based free charging stations for electric vehicles on Thursday.

Bautista said DOTr will ensure that its transport policies and projects are dovetailed on the preservation of the environment and compliant with international environment standards towards alleviating the impact of transportation on the environment.

The DoTr chief at the same time lauded former President Duterte’s programs, which improved transportation efficiency and reduced carbon emissions through the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

“The Department of Transportation launched programs geared at improving transportation efficiency and reducing emissions and pollutants from the public transportation sector,” Bautista said.

According to Bautista, the establishment of the national development plan for the electric vehicle industry is a big push for the promotion of electric vehicles in the country.

He added that the DOTr will support the advancement of Republic Act 11697 or the Development of Electric Vehicle Industry to provide sustainable transport alternatives to Filipinos.

The Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’ charging stations e-mobility initiative is the country’s first mall-based charging stations for electric bikes, scooters, vehicles, and public utility vehicles located at Uptown Bonifacio in BGC, Taguig City.

Megaworld launched the free charging project for electric automobiles in partnership with DOTr, Department of Energy (DOE), and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
