MARIJUANA tops the most commonly bought illegal drug in the Philippines in 2022, said the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Davao (PDEA-Davao).

“Dati ang shabu ang number one drug of choice in our country, as of today medyo naungosan na siya ni marijuana, why? Nagamahal man gud ang shabu (Before the most common drug in our country was shabu. As of today marijuana is high in demand because meth now expensive) because there’s already a scarcity of supply,” Noli Dimaandal, PDEA-Davao Spokesperson said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio.

Dimaandal said the price of illegal drugs fluctuates depending on the supply and demand.

Meanwhile, Dimaandal said the street value of illegal drugs in Davao Region is among the most expensive in the country. He said the current price of the illegal drugs in the region is roughly P12,000 to P16,000 per gram.

“[Its expensive] due to checkpoints, entry points maglisod silag pasulod, ang atoang mga Task-Force Davao personnel hawod na pud kaayo maka-detect og mga drugs, isa pa ang closed coordination with the PDEA and other law enforcement agencies, ug ang pinakaimportante gyud ang support sa community particularly sa atong campaign sa illegal drugs (it is not easy for them to smuggle illegal drugs here because our Task-Force Davao personnel are equipped to detect illegal drugs. They are also in close coordination with the PDEA and other law enforcement agencies. It is also important to note that we have the support of the community when it comes to our campaign against illegal drugs),” Dimaandal said.

Dimaandal said the community plays a big role in fighting against illegal drugs in the city.

“Sila na ang nagahatag sa atoa og information kung kinsa tong mga taong nainvolved sa illegal drugs activities, ngano man? Community man gud ang naa gyud pinakadako nga contribution why is it that those drug perpetrators in our region is atoa gyud ma-apprehend (They give us information about who are the people involved in illegal drug activities. The community has the biggest contribution when it comes to apprehending drug perpetrators in our region),” Dimaandal said. KSD
