IN the first half of 2022, the Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao (BFP-Davao) has responded to a total of 527 fire incidents in the Davao Region with total property damage estimated to be at P60 million.

Data from BFP-Davao showed that residential fire is the most common in the region with 226 cases, followed by industrial factories with 27, and commercial or mercantile structures with 26 cases.

BFP-Davao Chief of Operations Division FSINSP. Esequil Tabon said on July 15, 2022 in an interview with Philippine Information Agency-Davao (PIA-Davao) Virtual Presser that the total number of fire incidents in the first half of 2022 is higher by 13.8 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

However, they have observed that residential fire has decreased by 9 percent. Meanwhile, fire at industrial factors have neither decreased nor increased.

“Based on investigation and analysis kaya dumadami yong commercial since nagbabalik na po ang mga kababayan natin nga nag-engage into business (there are more fire incidents in commercial establishments since more people have opened their own business),” Tabon said.

Tabon said there are also reported cases of non-structural fire incidents such as grass fires and motor vehicles, but the number is not that high.

Data from BFP-Davao also showed that Davao City has the highest number of fire incidents from January to June 2022 with 253; followed by Davao del Norte with 104, Davao del Sur with 77, Davao de Oro with 41, Davao Oriental with 36, and Davao Oriental with 16. KSD
