THREE fishermen were arrested in an anti-illegal fishing campaign in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Sunday, July 17, 2022.
Police Colonel Albert Larubis, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, identified those arrested as Alsaif Nasidul, 19; Alkabir Jammang, 18; and Walid Alih, 18, all residents of Litayon village, Alicia town in that province.
Larubis said they were arrested by joint police and Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Office (MFAR) personnel around 3:35 p.m. Saturday, July 16, in the municipal waters of Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay.
He said the joint team of police and MFAR personnel were on patrol when they chanced upon a motorboat with three people aboard engaged in illegal fishing locally known as “Sinsuro”.
Larubis said confiscated from the three arrested fishermen were a 10-horse power motorboat and fishing gears.
He said the arrested fishermen and the confiscated fishing gears were taken to the MFAR office of Mabuhay for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
