12K nabbed for not wearing face mask

SINCE January 1, 2022, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has apprehended a total of 12,525 people for not wearing face masks.

PMaj. Teresita Gaspan, DCPO Spokesperson, said during the AFP-PNP Press Conference on July 20, 2022, that they already issued citation tickets to 1,584 violators from May 14-July 19, 2022.

Under City Ordinance No. 0307-20, face masks must be worn in public. Violators are subject to fines of P500 for the first offense, P2,000 for the second, and P5,000 or one month's imprisonment for the third.

Gaspan said that out of the 12,525 violators, 4,535 violators have already settled their fine while 4,191 have been endorsed to the fiscal and were not able to pay the fine in the given time.

“Naa tay 870 na number of person na na-isyuhan for regular filing and for verification of payment until now wala pa ni sila kabayad (Aroun 870 are up for regular filing and verification of payment, untl now, some of them have yet to pay their fines),” Gaspan said.

“Padayon ang atong enforcement, nagpabilin mana siya nga restriction, especially sa public places and we have also deputized agencies sa local government nga naga-isyu pud ana nga gatabang sa atoang DCPO para ma-strengthen gyud natog maayo ang enforcement ani nga Covid-19 protocol (The enforcement of the ordinance continues. It has not been lifted yet, and must be observed in public spaces. We have also deputized agencies in local government units to help DCP in the enforcement of the Covid-19 protocl),” Gaspan said.
