RENOWNED artists Revo Yanson and Dr. Ryan Paul Gonzales launched their “Day Off” art exhibit at the Art Cove of Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod on Thursday, July 21.

“Day-Off” is a term used for a break in our weekly routine or anything that keeps you busy.

The concept of the exhibit is based on the idea of doing what we love.

Yanson is a visual artist, painter, and illustrator interested in art that transcends social borders and reflects the innermost realms of one’s consciousness.

He co-founded the Kami art group and Rhymes of Residence, a monthly poetry reading in the Negros Island.

“I'm always interested in art that uses forms and symbols to evoke emotive responses, making use of the ambiguity, irony and symbolism, that leaves the artwork open to multiple interpretations relative to the viewer's experience," Yanson shared.

His art pieces being displayed at the Art Cove include "Nanay, Mensahe, Search for the Bliss #1, #2, #3, Go with the Flow #s 1, 2, 3, Kirtan, Alibang-bang, Nature Trip and Day-Off."

He used ink on a Vellum board for this art masterpieces.

Like Yanson, Gonzales is also a visual artist, painter and installation artist who hailed from a small village in La Carlota City and later on migrated to Cebu.

He returned home and started to express his artistry through mural painting and installation arts with concepts that call for the protection of the environment.

He uses his art to raise awareness of the different issues encompassing life.

"I am using art to speak and I love to speak in metaphors, ironies and sarcasms but within the borders of my truth,” Gonzales stressed.

The artist/doctor embraces all mediums and colors available within his grasp like a new language and fills them with stories, his stories.

His art pieces at the Art Cove were made with the use of the "Espading" or sugarcane cutters to express his art dubbed as the "Excursion, Lagaw Mode On, Tatay Halong sa Pag Puli, Day-Off, The Substitute, Teacher's Meeting and Wash Day."

He used oil in all his art pieces being exhibited at the Art Cove.

For his part, Park Inn by Radissons Bacolod General Manager Sherwin Lucas said the artworks have made him realize that we must find time to slow down and take stock of what is essential to us.

Lucas said that he also learned through the exhibit to live more truthfully and not by the complex standards set by society.

“I hope you'll find your unique definition of rest from these masterpieces,” he said.

He added that personally, as he looks at the artworks, it awakened an old perspective of rest in him.

“A time to travel to a period where we define fun as a stroll in the park where we enjoy face-to-face conversations with friends and family and where nature is our playground,” Lucas stressed.

The art exhibit will run from July 21 to October 8, 2022.
