The Iloilo City Government has allocated P15-million for the establishment of Chief Justice Ramon Avanceña Learning Center at Arevalo Plaza.

Mayor Jerry Treñas signed the funding allocation upon approval of the City Council.

“We have to revive our love for reading through the district libraries. We have also named them in honor of our Ilonggo heroes in their district of birth,” Treñas said.

The mayor led the launching of a temporary library with a story-telling session for children at Sta. Filomena Day Care Center in Arevalo which is open from Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.

The local chief executive thanked partners Sigma Alpha Epsilon Philippines - International; UP Sigma Rho Fraternity; Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena Chapter Order of Demolay; and book donors for the support.

Treñas initiated the establishment of district libraries to bring educational services closer to residents.

The facilities are also equipped with computers and Wi-Fi connection for those who want to study, research and review.

The Iloilo City Public Library transferred from City Hall to Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena Learning Resource Center and Museum on Fajardo Street, Jaro.

La Paz Plaza, which has started rehabilitation works, will also host a library. (PR)
