A TRICYCLE driver urinating on a vacant lot in Sitio Sangi, Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City has become the angel of the five-day-old female infant.

The driver, also a Pajo barangay tanod (watchman), was the one who discovered the abandoned infant near the airbase on Saturday afternoon, July 23, 2022.

The abandoned infant was naked when she was discovered by the tricycle driver.

The infant was brought to the Carjay Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where she was given medical care. Medical personnel said the baby had insect bites and sepsis.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has suggested to put the infant up for adoption should the City Social Welfare and Development fail to find the mother of the child.

“Kung pakyas sila sa pagsuta niini, akong suhestiyon nga pangitaan na lang siya og mga tawong mo-amuma ug tinuod nga mopangga kaniya aron modako siya nga usa ka bililhong indibidwal,” Chan said on his Facebook page Saturday.

(If they fail to find her, my suggestion is to find people who can truly take care of her so she will grow up to be a valuable individual.)

The mayor said he was angry and hurt at the same time thinking that the mother managed to leave her child easily while other couples have been longing to produce their own offspring.

Chan, however, said half of him sympathized with the mother as he could not discount the possibility that the mother could have abandoned her child due to difficulty in life or she could have been suffering from some form of mental illness.
