CEBU City Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia was elected as president of the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines’ (VMLP) Cebu chapter on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

Garcia was elected unopposed during the VMLP’s general assembly at the Holiday Inn in Cebu City.

Garcia is the second official from Cebu City chosen to lead a group of local executives, whether in Cebu or nationwide. Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Garcia’s running mate in the recent elections, was recently elected as president of the League of Cities in the Philippines.

In an interview with SunStar Cebu, Garcia was thankful to his fellow vice mayors in Cebu for electing him.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the vice mayors of all the different municipalities and cities of Cebu for their trust and confidence in selecting me to steer the league,” Garcia said.

The first-term Cebu City vice mayor promised that he will not waste the trust given to him by his fellow vice mayors.

“We will work hard to be worthy of that trust by working to secure additional benefits for the League’s members in terms of capacity building and enhancement,” Garcia added.

This is not the first time that Garcia served as president for a local chapter of an association composed of local officials.

The son of former Cebu City mayor Alvin Garcia had served as president of the Barangay Councilors’ League of the Philippines-Cebu City Chapter when he was still a councilor of Barangay Kamputhaw in 2014.

During his first term as city councilor in 2016, the younger Garcia was also elected as president of the Philippine Councilors’ League-Cebu City Chapter.
