MORE than 26,000 students have so far enrolled in both public and private schools in Lapu-Lapu City for the school year 2022-2023.

Maria Mitze Zagales, senior education program specialist-planning and research of the Department of Education (DepEd) Lapu-Lapu City Schools Division, told SunStar Cebu that 26,432 students had been enrolled as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

This was just 20.48 percent of the 129,000 estimated number of enrollees in both public and private schools in the city.

Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos, DepEd Lapu-Lapu City Division superintendent, earlier said they expect about 110,000 and 19,000 enrollees in public and private schools, respectively.

Zagales said 14,234 of the 26,432 students enrolled in elementary school while 7,073 enrolled in junior high school.

About 3,204 students also enrolled in senior high school while 2,101 enrolled in the kindergarten level.

The enrollment started on Monday, July 25 and will end on Aug. 22, which is also the start of the classes.

Lapu-Lapu City has about 81 public schools, 44 of which are elementary; 27 and 10 are junior high and senior high schools, respectively.

Bongalos earlier said all the 70 private schools will implement the limited face-to-face classes in the opening of classes this coming August, adding that some have already started the blended learning this month.
