NEGROS Occidental Fourth District Rep. Juliet Marie "Yoyette" Ferrer was elected chairperson of the House Committee on Justice.

There are 63 standing committees and 17 special committees comprising the 19th Congress, which were entrusted to 311 members of the House of Representatives by way of election.

Ferrer is a lawyer by profession and served as an ex-officio member of the Judicial and Bar Council, sharing the seat with the Senate chair of the justice committee.

"It is an honor to be considered, nominated and elected for this prestigious position. I thank House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez for his trust and confidence," she said.

Having been elected as the chairperson of the Justice Committee, Ferrer said she can use her legal background.

"Rest assured that I will be working hard to fulfill my mandate in the service of God and the Filipino people," she added.*
