THREE barangays in Cagayan de Oro City have been given a drug-cleared status by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Northern Mindanao.

These are Barangays 1, 7 and 14. This brings the total of drug-cleared barangays in the city to 13.

Cagayan de Oro also has nine drug-free barangays, most of them are numbered barangays.

Drug-cleared barangays are those barangays who were drug-affected from the very start and were drug cleared after interventions were conducted and going through due process, according to PDEA Provincial Officer Expedito Cardona Jr.

"Ang drug-cleared barangay, from the very start, drug-affected barangay sya. Buot pasabot naa gyud personality nga gitagaan og intervention," Cardona explained.

"After sila gitagaan og intervention, they have gone due process until such time atong gi-award nga drug-cleared barangay," he added.

Drug-free barangays, on the other hand, are barangays with no identified persons who used drugs.

At present, there are 58 barangays that have yet to be drug cleared in Cagayan de Oro. Cardona said that the barangay drug clearing program of most of these barangays is still ongoing. (SunStar Philippines)
