THE Negros Cultural Foundation, Inc. (NCFI) launched Pagsaulog: A Celebration of Negrense Culture.

It aims to promote activities that provide a venue for artistic expression; cultural promotion and appreciation of Negrenses.

Likewise, the activity’s thrust is for wellness and recovery using the arts, which is aligned with responding to the challenge of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) under the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

The award encourages the local government units to promote and conserve cultural heritage through property inventory, documentation and publication of narratives of history and culture.

NCFI president Lyn Gamboa, led the launching of the program at the Mural Hall of the museum along with Provincial Tourism Officer Cheryl Decena, Co-Festival Director Sine Negrense, Banjo Hinolan, Roger Joshua Venal of Hugpong Dagyaw mural competition and Venise T. Buenaflor of Hugpong Dagyaw - Cinco de Noviembre theater competition.

Among the activities is the Hugpong Dayaw, a promotion of Negrense Culture.

“Hugpong-Dayaw,” which means to unite and to show, utilizes a quad media approach in promoting the Negrense culture and the arts by collecting the works of different practitioners of music, literature, film, and visual arts specifically, photography in the Negros Occidental.

It also envisions capturing the unique and enduring culture and practices of its people.

Through the platform of competitions and performances, Hugpong Dayaw hopes to gather and create an archive of works and use them as materials in promoting culture and in shaping the Negrosanon’s awareness of place, self and nation.

With the support of the provincial government, Hugpong Dayaw’s organizers are optimistic that they could gather and create an archive of the works and use them as materials in promoting culture and in shaping the Negrosanon’s awareness of place, self and nation.

Another is the Cinco de Noviembre short play competition that aims to allow the youth of all ages to learn more about the history and the culture of Negros Occidental by enabling them to mount their dramatic concepts and original performances.

The performances must be based on their take or interpretation of the actual historical events that significantly happened in Negros Occidental, but it is reflected and presented through the lens of a Gen Z.

“We are highlighting Negrense History to promote appreciation and a deeper understanding of the Cinco de Noviembre Celebration,” the organizers said in a statement.

The Sine Negrense Negros Island Film Festival will also hold a competition for aspiring and emerging filmmakers interested in films, they added.

They will also hold a lecture workshop series on essential film-making.
